The Tale of Three Cities

For all my life, I've been living in scorching hot Surabaya, then three months (and three extra days) happily stranded in Kuta/Ubud and now I am adjusting my sail at this cramped and congested Jakarta. There's so much I want to say in the midst of uneasy feelings of I don't know. Then, I suppose the only way to tell you about what I've felt in those places are to tell you through these tall tale of three cities.

Surabaya
I was born and raised in this city, the capital of East Java. This city is my comfort zone where I spent doing (I must say) almost nothing because I was entirely subordinated by the arbitrary social views and at the same time I wasn't brave enough to hit the wall. But whatever, the last several years before I sell my soul to another cities, I happened to be triggered to 'read against the grain'. Some questions are half-sober answered while the others haven't. I became drown in plethora of 'seeking the truth, discovering myself' and all that jazz. I decide I should go to the second city.

I remember this song when I dissolve into this city:

Bali (Kuta/Ubud)
I stayed at Kuta for three months and Ubud district in three days. Those are my remedy no matter how mainstream those places are and how often everyone babbled the same idea. I don't mind to go back to Bali, in fact I was begging politely for you to take me there. I don't believe there's a land within our hearts which soothes us like Bali did. I mean, there's no way you could cultivate Ubud's chilly weather and amicable nature or even Kuta's malicious sun in someone's hearts and minds. If someone can, well I won't let her/him. There's nothing more peaceful than hoping I was waking up in the actual drizzly Ubud.

Jakarta
I don't know why I chose this city despite the education level and bigger chances. I don't even know why I've tried to settle down to seek discomfort. I could hear Adele's 21 echoing everywhere in this city. Pardon me, but I am very biased by thinking this place was never familiar. Why did I miss the other two cities so much if this place is what I've been dreaming of to manifest my wish? The places, the people I have been longing for were like dispersed in thin air and I was too late to catch any pieces left. Did I miss something?
